(As I was trying to think of a title for this post, Alicia Keys' "This Girl is on Fire" came on the radio. This could not be anymore appropriate. This is girl Alex, is on fire! )
I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a long post by a girl I have not seen since my sophomore year of high school. Back then, I thought we were two completely different people, but I quickly realized today that the people we have become are not so opposite.
Alex, I admire your perseverance and dedication in a damned if you do, damned if you don't world. We all have this picture in our mind of what we think would be the perfect figure and what would make us happy. If those girls in the gym could only realize that they too are not so different from you. They were in the gym for the same reason you were. However in the end, you will come out on top because you have the ability to see people for their true self worth, not their looks.
I have come to the conclusion that there will always be someone there to try and tear you down. No matter how hard you work to get to your image you feel happy with, those same people will be there to criticize you for something else. But you don't achieve happiness in life by pleasing others. Keep striving for your goals and just do you.
Thank you for posting your thoughts to Facebook. They will be words of inspiration for so many young girls and women to stick with their goals and not worry about judgmental people.
